How to Buy Tires Online: A Step-by-Step Guide
Buying tires online saves money because you skip the storefront markup, and it takes only a few minutes once you know your size. Here is the whole process.
1. Find your tire size
Read it off your current tire's sidewall, for example 205/55R16, or check the sticker inside the driver's door jamb. The three numbers you need are width, aspect ratio and rim diameter.
2. Search and compare
Enter your size and compare options by price, brand and season. Look at the price per tire so you are comparing like with like, and check the load index and speed rating match what your car needs.
3. Decide where they ship
You can have tires delivered to your home or straight to the shop that will fit them. Shipping to your installer saves a trip and means the tires arrive where they are needed.
4. Get them fitted
A local shop mounts and balances the new tires, usually for about $20 to $35 each. Call ahead so they know a delivery is coming.
5. Check them over
Confirm the size stamped on the sidewall matches what you ordered, and ask the shop to set the correct pressure. That is it.
